Music has long been a source of great joy to The Presbyterian Church of La Porte. These days we have lots of musical opportunities for children, youth and adults.  These are open groups.  Newcomers are welcome!

Worship Band

The Worship Band is led by our Director of Music, Carey Scheck.  We have a talented group of musicians including a bassist, guitar players, keys player, drummer, and singers. The group sings mostly contemporary Christian songs with a little Christian world music and some rock hymn settings. The Worship Band plays each week for the Cross Connection service.

They are happy to welcome new musicians.  Worship Band rehearses on Monday nights at 5:30 PM.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is under the direction of Kathleen Lang and is accompanied by our Director of Music, Carey Scheck.  The choir sings a variety of traditional, classical and new music in choral settings and sings for our Traditional service.

They have a great time together and are always happy for new members. Chancel Choir rehearses on Wednesdays at 7:15 PM.

Genesis Hand Bell Choir

Under the direction of Carey Scheck, the Hand Bell Choir lives to "Ring to the Lord!"  The Presbyterian Church of La Porte owns a nice four octave set of Schulmerich hand bells.  The Genesis Choir plays for the Traditional Worship service and is delighted to welcome new members.  The Hand Bell Choir rehearses on Mondays at 7:00 PM.

Children's and Youth Choir

The Children's and Youth choirs of our church are an outgrowth of our Kid's Club program which meets Wednesday nights from 5:00 - 6:00 PM. The choirs are divided by age and ability. The children's choir is for children, age 4 years through 2nd grade. The Youth Choir is for children in 3rd-6th grades.  Both choirs sing music for fun and for performance, learning music reading skills, developing vocal techniques and having a blast doing it!   Additionally the Youth Choir works with beginning hand bells.

The Children's and Youth Choirs sing once a month on average in either the Cross Connection or the Traditional service. The Choirs' season runs during the school year from just after Labor Day through Memorial Day.
